Nach umfassender Überlegung und Recherche zum passenden Einsatzort haben wir uns für Athen entschieden. Wir waren erschrocken darüber, wie wenig über die Situation auf dem Festland berichtet wird und wie viele Versorgungslücken es gibt.
In Athen werden wir uns einer Aktionsgruppe anschließen, einer Gruppe aus lokalen Aktivist*innen.
Das Ziel des Vorhabens:
- eine langfristige Verbesserung der Situation von People on the Move und Obdachlosen in und um Athen zu schaffen
- ein niedrigschwelliges Angebot zu stellen was keine Bedingungen an Teilhabe stellt
- eine stetige Struktur schaffen auf die sich Betroffene verlassen und die sie mitgestalten können
- Die Isolierung von Menschen in Camps zu durchbrechen durch langfristige politsche zusammenarbeit
- Enge Zusammenarbeit mit Athener Aktivist*innen vor Ort
- Ein größeres Verantwortungsbewusstsein bei politischen Akteur*innen schaffen
- People on the Move die Möglichkeit geben ihre Situation politisch öffentlich zu problematisieren und sich aktiv zu vernetzen
- gemeinsam mit People on the Move politische Aktionen planen, z.B. das Organisieren von Demonstrationen und Protesten
- Durch eigene Medienarbeit und Kooperation mit Journalist*innen die Einhaltung von Asylrecht und Menschenrechten fordern
- aktiv Wohnraum finden und diesen kollektiv gestalten um eine selbstbestimmte Alternative zu Campstrukturen zu schaffen
Seit dem langen Sommer der Migration 2015, in dem hunderttausende Menschen Europa erreichten, baut EU-ropa (nicht Europa, weil die Europäische Union nicht mit Europa gleichzusetzen ist) massiv durch Militarisierung, Asylrechtsverschärfungen, gewaltsamen Pushbacks und Menschenrechtsverletzungen immer weiter seinen Grenzschutz auf. Das Scheitern der EU-ropäischen Migrationspolitik findet unter anderem darin Ausdruck, das massenhaft Menschen unter elendigen Bedingungen, größtenteils von der Außenwelt isoliert, festgesetzt sind. Viele verlieren dabei Familie, Freunde oder ihr eigenes Leben.
Das sich EU-ropa als postkoloniales Konstrukt immer weiter entwickelt ist das Resultat davon, das Menschen in kolonialisierten Ländern ausgebeutet werden. Wir kritisieren das diesen Menschen das Asyl verweigert wird und ihre Menschenrechte gebrochen werden.
Trotzdem werden weiterhin Kämpfe für die Bewegungsfreiheit geführt. Mit unserem Projekt wollen wir eine praktische und solidarische Antwort auf die Situation geben.Wir stehen für eine Bewegungsfreiheit für alle ein und kämpfen dafür, dass sie zu einer gelebten Praxis wird und bleibt. Griechenland ist durch seine geographische Lage besonders herausgefordert. Der größte Teil aller in Europa ankommenden Menschen kommen seit Jahren über die Türkei nach Griechenland. Zusätzlich werden weitergereiste Menschen über Dublinverfahren zurück nach Griechenland abgeschoben. Griechische Camps sind stark überlastet. Oft wird dadurch die einfachste Grundversorgung nicht gewährleistet. Es fehlt an Essen und medizinischer und technischer Versorgung. Die hygienischen Bedingungen sind unwürdig und vor allem in Coronazeiten nicht tragbar. Quarantänekonzepte funktionieren oft nicht . Zahlungen der Europäischen Union versickern in Milliardenhöhe ohne dass sich die Situation erheblich verbessert. Menschen die sich dieser ausbeuterischen Lebensbedingungen entziehen wollen oder aus anderen Gründen einen Wohnort in der Stadt vorziehen, finden sich ohne staatliche Unterstützung auf der Straße wieder. Besonders diese sind auf externen Support angewiesen.

It’s finally starting!
After extensive consideration and research on the appropriate location, we decided on Athens. We were shocked at how little is reported about the situation on the mainland and how many gaps in services there are.
In Athens we will join an action group, a group of local activists.
The goal of the project:
- create a long-term improvement in the situation of People on the Move and homeless people in and around Athens
- to provide a low-threshold offer that does not impose conditions of participation
- to create a steady structure that people on the move can rely on and that they can help to shape
- accompany people when they go to the authorities and doctor’s appointments and support them in familiarizing themselves with their rights
- support Athens activists on the ground and shift/share responsibility
- create a greater sense of responsibility among political actors
- give People on the Move the opportunity to publicly address their situation politically and to network actively
- plan political actions together with People on the Move, e.g. organizing demonstrations and protests
- create open meeting places for FLINTA* (Women, Lesbians, Inter, Nonbinary, Trans, Agender,*)
- demand the respect of asylum-and human rights through own media work and cooperation with journalists
- actively find and collectively design living space in order to create a self-determined alternative to camp structures
Since the long summer of migration 2015, in which hundreds of thousands of people reached Europe, EU-ropa (not Europe, because the European Union is not the same as Europe) is massively building up its border protection through militarization, tightening of asylum laws, violent pushbacks and human rights violations. The failure of the EU’s European migration policy finds expression, among other things, in the fact that masses of people are trapped in miserable conditions, mostly isolated from the outside world. Many lose family, friends or their own lives.
The fact that EU-ropa continues to develop as a post-colonial construct is the result of people being exploited in colonized countries. We criticize that these people are denied the right of asylum and their human rights are broken.
Nevertheless, struggles for freedom of movement continue. With our project we want to give a practical and solidary answer to the situation. We stand up for a freedom of movement for all and fight for it to become and remain a lived practice. Greece is particularly challenged by its geographical location. The majority of all people arriving in Europe have been coming to Greece via Turkey for years. In addition, people who have traveled further are deported back to Greece via Dublin procedures. Greek camps are heavily overloaded. As a result, the simplest basic services are often not provided. There is a lack of food and medical and technical care. The hygienic conditions are unworthy and especially in corona times not sustainable. Quarantine concepts often do not work. Payments from the European Union trickle down in billions without any significant improvement in the situation. People who want to escape these exploitative living conditions or prefer to live in the city for other reasons find themselves on the streets without government support. Especially these people are dependent on external support.
